2.  Created in December 1949 which was the same year of UN recognition of the State of Israel in order to help refugees after an Arab invasion of Israel just the day after their declaration of independence.  The only agency that helps refugees that is separate from the UNHCR.  Provides education, health care, social surfaces, and aid to Palestinian refugees residing in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.  UNRWA schools were the same schools that were bombed by the Israeli government during the last Israeli military operation to eliminate Hezbollah in the Gaza Strip. REVIEW OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE UNITED NATIONS RELIEF AND WORKS AGENCY FOR PALESTINE REFUGEES IN THE NEAR EAST (UNRWA)

3.  Under the United Nations Department of Political Affairs which is directly responsible for “conflict prevention, peacemaking and post-conflict [peace building] in Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East.”  Essentially these are peace keeping missions in countries such as:  Iraq  Burundi  Afghanistan  That means you have to know all of the peace keeping missions that the DPA is overseeing.  Other things the DPA does:  Elections, Regional Organizations (AU), protection against terrorism, decolonization, and Palestinian rights. There is actually information for Bulgaria in to regards Israel-Palestine.  Bulgaria did abstain on the most recent vote to recognize Palestine.  In the past, Israeli tourist have been bombed in Bulgaria by Hezbollah…  Funds given to UNRWA: $475,000 for humanitarian efforts and $70,000 to support Palestine refugees in Syria.  Peacekeeping and Bulgaria…  Well…as of 2014 Bulgaria contributed 2 peacekeepers to the United Nations.  Provided aid to Ukraine, so there still is major room for contributions here. 5.  AMAZING country for GA4! They were the first country to accept Palestinian refugees under the system of the UNHCR.  Palestinian community in Chile is estimated at about 500,000.  However, they do recognize both Israel and Palestine and so a staunch one sided stance cannot be taken.  Chile contributed 439 peacekeepers to the United Nations in 2014. And therefore have had a large opinion with the political missions.  More than the U.S., UK, Japan, Germany, RUSSIA…  Make sure to research Chile’s stance on each of the political missions. 6.  KSA’s stance on Israel: HUMAN RIGHTSVILLE (AKA SAUDI ARABIA)!

8.  KSA’s stance on Israel:  Saudi Arabia only recognized Palestine and is one of the most staunch anti-Israel countries.  In doing so, they provide some of the largest financial support for refuges and they are a huge proponent of UNRWA.  They provided 0 peacekeepers to the United Nations, however they are devoted to peace in the Middle East.
