2 2. You will be required to complete three writing assignments for this exam. Each assignment has been outlined within this hand-out. 3. Assignment 1 and 2 may take on any format: you may choose to write a. a short story: no less than three pages, b. a personal piece: no less than two pages, c. a poem: no shorter than 20 lines, d. a personal interpretation of your choice: confirm with me first. 4. You may not repeat the same format for both assignments. In other words, you may not write two poems or two short stories. 5. You may decide the order upon which you want to work on the assignments.

3 6. You may work outside of class if you choose to do so but during class you are expected to be working on your exam continuously. I will be conducting formative assessments during this time. 7. Lab #2 has been made available to you for all sessions. You are expected to work in class. The atrium is off limits. 8. During the exam, I will be happy to help by reading through pieces, however, I will not edit your pieces.

4 9. Please note: The Senior Class Trip is scheduled for Wednesday May 27th. You are responsible for keeping up with your work. 10. All the assignments must be handed in by the end of the exam session. Please use the yellow folder that you received at the beginning of the semester to hand in all your completed work. 11. Please see the exam schedule below to determine when you need to hand in your work.

8 Writing Assignment # 2 The Power of Imagination Albert Einstein once said: "Imagination is everything. It is the preview for life's coming attractions." Below are two interesting images. Choose one of the images and then create an imaginative piece that supports or opposes Einstein’s claim. The focus for this piece is to use strong figurative language, imagination and alternative perspectives.

9 Writing Assignment # 3 Final Reflections For this section you are required to answer the following four questions. Each question is worth five points. Question 1 Do you see yourself as a writer? Why or why not? Question 2 How has your writing changed throughout the semester? Question 3 Where is there room for you to improve your writing? Question 4 Resubmit ONE writing assignment that you are particularly proud of. Explain why you chose this piece and how it best represents who you are as a writer.
