1 Conductors - Insulators What causes charge? How does charge move ?

2 How Does Charge Move? + In a solid, the nucleus is fixed in place. +++++++++ The electron carries charge In a conductor, the valence electrons are free to move around from atom to atom. In an insulator, the valence electrons are stuck in place.

3 Examples of a charged conductors behavior

6 Insulators Insulators: all of the electrons are bound to atoms and thus the electrons can not move freely through the material –(e.g. glass, rubber and wood) + + + + + + +
