Anne parried the King's advances, refusing to give way until he received an annulment of his marriage to Catherine. When Pope Clement VII seemed unlikely to grant the annulment, the inexorable rift between King Henry and the Roman Catholic Church began., refusing to give way until he received an annulment of his marriage to Catherine. 6 Jane Seymour was the daughter of Sir John Seymour of Wiltshire and Margery Wentworth, and was King Henry VIII's fifth cousin three times removed. Her exact birth date is debated; it is usually given as 1509, but it has been noted that at her funeral 29 women walked in succession. [1] Since it was customary for the attendant company to mark every year of the deceased's life in numbers, this implies she was born in 1508. But her father, a younger son, was not well-off owing to primogeniture and the large size of his family, and he often begged for handouts from his more powerful relatives. 8 Following Henry's death on 28 January 1547, Catherine was able to marry her old love, Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley and Lord High Admiral. Having had no children from her first three marriages, Catherine became pregnant for the first time, by Seymour, at age thirty-five. But her happiness was short-lived.Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of SudeleyLord High Admiral In 1782, a gentleman by the name of John Locust discovered the coffin of Queen Catherine at the ruins of the Sudeley Castle chapel. He opened the coffin and observed that the body, after 234 years, was in a surprisingly good condition. Reportedly the flesh on one of her arms was still white and moist. After taking a few locks of her hair, he closed the coffin and returned it to the grave. Sudeley Castle

9 King Henry VIII of England was born on 28th June 1491. He became King of England when his father died on 21st April 1509, and he reigned until his own death on 28th January 1547. His father, King Henry VII had become King of England after defeating King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in the year 1485. This marked the end of a long and bloody Civil War in England over who should succeed to the throne, known as The Wars of the Roses. The last time a female had inherited the English throne was in the year 1141 when the daughter of King Henry I, Matilda became Queen. This led to a long Civil War known as "The Anarchy." Henry VIII was keen to avoid another, similar Civil War and wanted to have a son who would be an undisputed, male heir to the throne.
