 Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846 by Johann Galle  It was named after the Roman God of the Sea because of its color  We knew little about this Planet until 1989  America sent Voyager 2 past Neptune in 1989 and got photos from it and got our first glimpse of what Neptune really looked like

 The rotation of Neptune takes 17.7 hours to fully rotate.  The revolution is 164.79 Earth years.

Neptune Is exactly 4.4 billion miles away from Earth Because Neptune orbits around the sun, its distance is constantly changing Neptune is 4,504,300,000 KM away from the sun

 Neptune's diameter is about 30,755 miles  It 4x bigger then Earth  The density is 1.639g/cm  Mass is 10243x1026kg  Volume is 6.254x10km3  Neptune is a gaseous planet

Neptune’s temp. at cloud top is -218 degrees Celsius Its average temperature it 200 degrees Celsius

 Neptune consists of 80% hydrogen  19%helium  And 1.5%methane  Its core is a rocky material surrounded by a layer of liquid  The mantle is most likely water with methane and ammonia, but mostly rock and water

 Neptune’s atmosphere consist of mainly hydrogen and helium.  There have been trace amounts of methane, water, ammonia, and other ices.  Methane is what gives Neptune its bright blue color.  Its atmosphere consist of about 80% hydrogen and 19% helium, with 1% ammonia.  The light from Neptune is reflected from the Sun.

Neptune has 13 moons Triton, Nereid, Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Halimede, Psamathe, Sao, Laomedeia, and Neso Neptune was named for the God of the sea so its moons were given names of lesser sea gods and nymphs Triton is the largest of all 13 Triton has geysers that shoot ice 5 miles high, there is possible life under it’s ice

 Neptune is far from Sun so receives a little amount of heat  Consists of molten rock and metal  No solid surface since it’s a gas planet  Pressure is millions times more than on Earth

 Life on Neptune wouldn't last long, there is no oxygen in it’s atmosphere so you would survive for a very short amount of time  To go to Neptune would take a very long period of time, a long amount of time such as 12 long years  If you were to actually get to Neptune and go on its surface you would instantly freeze because of its -200+ temperatures
