HISTORY OF CHEMISTRY PERIODIC TABLE

LEARNING OBJECTIVES Students will learn how to: Use periodic table Find elements on table Look up protons, electrons and calculate neutrons.

MONDAY :ADOPT AN ELEMENT  For this project, you will  Research an element from the periodic table and choose one element you would like to know more about. You may use the following websites for your research:  www.chemcool.comwww.chemcool.com  www.cheMystery.com www.cheMystery.com  www.chem4kids.com www.chem4kids.com

TUESDAY: CREATE AN ADVERTISEMENT  The advertisements are used to create a large periodic table on a wall outside my classroom. The advertisement must be colorful, neat, and contain the required information - atomic number, atomic mass, symbol, element's name, advertising slogan, and cost. Students must create a slogan that is related to the their element's uses.

WEDNESDAY- ATOMIC ATTIRE  You will design your own shirt, apron or lab coat. Your attire will feature one element from the periodic table on an apron, shirt, or  lab coat using permanent markers or fabric paint to complete the protons,  electrons, and neutrons on the electron cloud model. The key is completed  and additional information including the discoverer, year discovered, natural  state, and uses for the element are identified and permanently painted onto  the individualized, wearable project.

 For this project you will need to use the Internet to research the elements  in the Periodic Table. Each card must include:  Periodic Table information Number of protons, neutrons, and electrons  Discovery information (Person and date)  Important Uses  Pictures that illustrate one or more uses for your element  Fill in the square with the information  from the periodic table.  * Be sure to follow the same format!  Determine the number of protons (P),  neutrons (N), and electrons (E).  Research your element to find out who  discovered or named your element and  give the year.  Provide at least 3 uses for your element.  Provide one or more pictures on the  back of the trading card that illustrate THURSDAY- GAME TIME Card Trading-online research Textbook and other resources

FRIDAY- PRESENTATION  This is it. Showcase your work to your classmates. The rubric should be your checklist to make sure that all your work is complete and done. Please be clear, loud and present your work in a serious manner. Points will be given to content and presentation. Good luck.
