4 Data Collection System
Meteosat-7 located at 0° supporting the Prime DCS service 33 regional channels, close to maximum utilisation 33 international channels co-ordinated by CGMS Meteosat-5 located at 63° E supporting the IODC DCS service from the 1st March 2005 3 international channels co-ordinated by CGMS

7 IODC DCS Three International Channels - I8, I9, I11 reserved for regional use by IODC, to be formally approved by CGMS in September 2005 Uses redundant equipment in the MTP Ground Station in Fucino, Italy to receive the data Data processed and disseminated by the EUMETSAT central site

8 DCP Data Dissemination
For the 0° Service GTS Internet - ‘push’ and ‘pull’ EUMETCast DCPRTU For the IODC Service

9 EUMETCast Overview Generic, multi-mission dissemination system based on the standard DVB multicast technology Use of commercial telecommunication satellites Allowing use of off-the shelf, commercial, inexpensive equipment DVB/MPEG-2 based transport for carrying IP datagrams Use of a set of broadcast satellite forward channels (no return channel) Components: Data providers Service management provider (EUMETSAT) Uplink service provider Turn around service provider(s) Satellites (Reference) Reception stations

13 IODC DCS Applications University of Hawaii - Sea Level Centre:
8 platforms are located in the Indian Ocean, they report hourly via Met-7 They will be re-allocated to Met-5 and increase reporting frequency to every 15 minutes Data Dissemination mechanism - GTS + Internet (pull) They plan to add 1 new platform in March

14 UHSLC sea level stations

15 System Limitations Limited international channels available
Five more channels could be used with CGMS agreement No ground segment redundancy until MSG-2 is successfully commissioned IODC dissemination mechanisms are currently limited to GTS and Internet

16 Future Planning MSG-2 launch and commissioning
Space segment relocations Meteosat-7 will replace Meteosat-5 at 63°E to continue the IODC Service until the end of 2008

17 Met-9 drift stop Met-7 & 8 stop imaging Met-9 start imaging Met-7 drift start Met-6 to standby Met-7 drift stop Stop RSS Met-5 stop imaging Met-7 start imaging Met-5 re-orbiting

18 System Issues Following the successful commissioning of MSG-2, the Fucino Ground Station equipment will support the IODC DCS with redundancy Meteosat-7 has a battery problem which may mean up to a 2 hour outage during the satellite eclipse season - Mar/April and September/October - under investigation
