A whole number with a fraction Improper fraction Has a value that is greater than 1. The numerator is greater than the denominator.

Renaming a mixed number as an improper fraction
Multiply the whole number by the denominator Add the product to the numerator Write the sum over the denominator

To rename an improper fraction as a mixed number
Divide the numerator by the denominator Write the quotient as a whole number Write the remainder over the denominator Reduce it if necessary
