8 HOW WOULD YOU… HAVE YOUR BREAKFAST IF You couldn’t hold a spoon/fork? You take long time to finish your meal? You just couldn’t cope with getting out of bed?

9 OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS …have the knowledge and the skills to help people overcome these and other barriers they may face in doing their everyday occupations!

17 ACTIVITIES USED BY OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Purposeful activities( activities that are meaningful) to help client regain skills Preparatory activities include therapeutic exercise, strengthening, stretching to help client get ready for purposeful activity Contrived activities to help stimulate actual activity e.g tying doll shoes before trying to lace own shoe Occupation centred activities eg preparing lunch at own home

18 DO OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST HELP PEOPLE GET JOBS ? Although term occupation commonly refers to jobs in which individual get paid, it also encompasses many things which people do that are meaningful to them. OT practitioner help client engage in occupations e.g being a mother is an occupation for many clients. which require certain tasks eg meal preparation, which may be necessary for someone but a chore for another OT analyze clients occupation so that they return to those that are of value

19 SUPPORT FOR THE PATIENT AND HIS FAMILY Reassure Therapist should help the family to be realistic in their expectations. The family should not expect the patient to perform activities beyond his capacity, but emphasize those he can do.
