2 Project Description SAC project Location: Kote Taluk, Mysore Area (rural/urban): Urban Primary focus: Economically disadvantaged students wanting to pursue their 11 th and 12 th standards (I and II PUC)

3 Mission Statement Provide information on various courses and colleges Collaborate with educational institutions to obtain improved resources & facilities Assist students in developing skills that will help them handle the academic stresses they will face during their college education and support merit students with scholarships

4 Challenges and Successes Challenges: –Ensuring that students chosen are dedicated to coming to the center and pursuing higher education Processes in place to overcome challenge: –Have contacts at the school who nominate students for the program –Conduct house visits for prospective students Successes: –100% of II PUC students are taking the exams to pursue graduation courses –All I PUC students promoted to II PUC (12th) course

9 Notable Achievements by students Manju K. Got good results in II PUC and got engineering seat in Government College in Mandya District. A local sponsor is helping him join the college Sowmya.M.: She scored distinction in her II PUC. One of the institutes in Tumkur district organized an entrance exam for PUC students for free Engineering seat. She took this exam and completed 5 rounds of interviews successfully and finally got selected. She did not pay any college tuition fees except hostel fee. Bharatha.C and Bharath Kumar are selected as NCC (National Cadet Crop) camp, in the field of Air wing for the 3 rd cam, where they were selected from 150 applicants. Anusha got I st place in Essay writing competition on subject” Your role in reducing Stigma & Discrimination on HIV/AIDS” organized by SAMASTHA a SVYM organization.

10 Challenges Kannada Speaking students face language issues in PUC College resulting in lower morale –Planning to start Spoken and Grammar English class to students. –Day to day counseling improves their confidence level. –Offering workshops through other SVYM organizations in English. Students with rural background also face motivational problems – Motivational talk and soft skills programs to build confidence. –Recognizing and celebrating small success by students with gifts to build confidence. Wrong economic background information given by parents –More meetings with the parents before the selections up from 2-3 to 4-5

11 Future Efforts Arrange study oriented trip and visit other SVYM organizations Visit disabled children homes and interact with them. Interact with different successful personalities in different fields. Arrange spoken English and grammar class.
