4 Myth #1: People only go to college because they can’t get into university 71% of students change their majors after 1 st year College can be an excellent option, depending on your unique pathway Transition from high school to college is not as drastic …some students may need more time to develop learning skills

5 College is more goal/job-oriented Many university graduates attend college to gain job specific skills Flexibility! …many colleges programs offer transfer options to carry on to university in second or third year Collaborative programs can offer the best of both

6 Myth #2: I’ll get a better job and make more money if I go to university students from a college or trade school are more likely to become employed following graduation than those graduating with a bachelor’s degree from a university (Statistics Canada, 2010)

7 Do the math… University - salaries may be generally higher for jobs requiring a university College - has the potential to get you out of school & into the workforce sooner … with a higher percentage of employment than the average university program The cost of a two year college diploma is around $21,000 and a four year university degree costs about $55,000 (Stats Canada)

8 Myth #3: The quality of education at a university is better than college Universities are large institutions with large classes (500+ in some courses) Colleges tend to have much smaller class sizes + instructors who have proven to be experts in their particular field –Greater student-teacher interaction –Most programs offer coop/internship opportunities = resume building

9 know the facts, consider all your options, and be informed!
