2 Questions 1.How do honey bees communicate with each other? 2.What are they able to tell each other? They do different dances, a circle dance and a wagging dance. They are able to tell each other that food has been discovered and how far away the feeding place is.

4 Discussion 1. What does the word “communication” mean? To pass information/orders, etc. to someone or to an animal. 2. What made it easier to do research on the language of honey bees? The development of the modern beehive in 1851.

5 3. What made Von decide to carry out his experiments? He had noticed that bees quickly discovered food, and seemed to be able to communicate this news to each other. 4. What did Von Frisch do in order to be able to watch the bees scientifically? He built a special hive with one honeycomb and a glass wall; he marked the bees with little spots of color.

6 5. Why might surrounding bees be excited by a dance? Because it communicated news of food. 6. What showed that the other bees understood the massage of the first bee? They copied the movements of the first dancer. 7. What does the circle dance mean? Food is near. 8. What does the wagging dance mean? Food is far away.
