Exalt the L ORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the L ORD our God is holy! Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel! Psalm 99:9; John 12:13 Call to Worship

Rise, O church and lift your voices, Christ has conquered death and hell. Sing as all the earth rejoices; resurrection anthems swell. Text: Jack W. Hayford Music: Henry T. Smart Worship Christ, The Risen King

Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the risen King!

See the tomb where death has laid him, empty now, its mouth declares: “Death and I could not contain him, for the throne of life he shares.”

Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the risen King!

Hear the earth protest and tremble, see the stone removed with pow’r; all hell’s minions may assemble, but cannot withstand his hour.

He has conquered, he has conquered, Christ the Lord, the risen King!

Doubt may lift its head to murmur, scoffers mock and sinners jeer; but the truth proclaims a wonder thoughtful hearts receive with cheer.

He is risen, he is risen, now receive the risen King!

We acclaim your life, O Jesus, now we sing your victory; sin or hell may seek to seize us, but your conquest keeps us free.

Jesus, forgive my sins. Forgive the sins that I remember, and the sins I have forgotten. Forgive my many failures in the face of temptation, and those times when I have been stubborn in the face of correction… Confession of Sin

Forgive the times I have been proud of my own achievements, and those when I have failed to boast in your works. Forgive the harsh judgments I have made of others, and the leniency I have shown myself…

Forgive the lies I have told to others, and the truths I have avoided. Forgive me the pain I have caused others, and the indulgence I have shown myself. Jesus, have mercy on me and make me whole. Amen.

(Silent confession)

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 Assurance of Forgiveness

May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 Offering

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray… Prayers of the People

Our Father, you rule over the nations of the earth in justice and mercy. Give wisdom to our President and representatives in Congress. Bring peace between the nations of the world. We plead for your mercy on our nation.

Holy Spirit, you are the Lord and giver of life. Protect and defend Ascension Church and our sister congregations in and around Portland. Spread your gospel in this place. We ask for protection and prosperity for our city.

Jesus, you are full of compassion. Relieve the suffering of the poor and oppressed in our city. Bring healing and joy to those who are ill or facing imminent death, and to those who care for them.

Our Father, you have set us here to cultivate and develop your creation. Please give us delight and diligence in our callings. Provide for those seeking work. Make us a blessing to our city through our work.

And teach us to pray as you taught your disciples, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

O Lamb of God, still keep me near thy wounded side; ’tis only there in safety and peace I can abide. Text: James George Deck Music: Benjamin Wilkinson O Lamb Of God, Still Keep Me

What foes and snares surround me! What lusts and fears within! The grace that sought and found me alone can keep me clean.

’Tis only in thee hiding I feel myself secure; ’tis only in thee abiding the conflict can endure.

Thine arm the victory gaineth o’er every hateful foe; thy love my heart sustaineth in all its cares and woes.

Soon shall my eyes behold thee with rapture, face to face; one half hath not been told me of all thy pow’r and grace.

Thy beauty, Lord, and glory, the wonders of thy love, shall be the endless story of all the saints above. “O Lamb Of God, Still Keep Me” Text: James George Deck Music: Benjamin Wilkinson Public Domain CCLI License #11109756

Jesus lives, and so shall I. Death! thy sting is gone forever! He who deigned for me to die lives, the bands of death to sever. Text: Christian Gellert Music: Matthew Curl Jesus Lives And So Shall I

Jesus lives, and reigns supreme, and, his kingdom still remaining, I shall also be with him, ever living, ever reigning.

God has promised, be it must: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, and by his grace, vict’ry o’er my passions giving, I will cleanse my heart and ways, ever to his glory living.

Me he raises from the dust: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, I know full well, naught from him my heart can sever, life nor death, nor pow’rs of hell, joy nor grief, henceforth forever.

None of all his saints is lost: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, and death is now but my entrance into glory. Courage, then, my soul, for thou hast a crown of life before thee;

What do you believe about Jesus Christ? He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15-20 Confession of Faith

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—

all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Amen.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (Greet one another with the words, “The peace of Christ be with you.”) Colossians 3:15 Passing of the Peace

Institution of the Lord’s Table

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. (The Mystery of Faith) Mysterium Fidei

Out of my bondage, sorrow and night, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come. Text: William Sleeper Music: Greg Thompson Jesus, I Come

Into thy freedom, gladness and light, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of my sickness into thy health, out of my wanting and into thy wealth,

out of my sin and into thy self, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of my shameful failure and loss, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into the glorious gain of thy cross, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of earth’s sorrows into thy balm, out of life’s storms and into thy calm,

out of distress into jubilant psalm, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of unrest and arrogant pride, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into thy blessed will to abide, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of myself to dwell in thy love, out of despair into raptures above,

upward forever on wings like a dove, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of the fear and dread of the tomb, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come.

Into the joy and light of thy home, Jesus, I come to thee.

Out of the depths of ruin untold, into the peace of thy sheltering fold,

ever thy glorious face to behold, Jesus, I come to thee. “Jesus, I Come” Text: William Sleeper Music: Greg Thompson © 2000 Greg Thompson CCLI License #11109756

He will clothe the poor with crowns in the kingdom he calls theirs. Text & Music: Wesley Randolph Eader Victory In The Lamb

He will raise them to the halls of heaven and release their earthly cares.

And the hard times, they will come, and the black clouds, they will break.

But his riches come with the morning sun and they grow green fields of grace.

So let all condemnation cease! Let guilt have no more claim! Let the devil lose all dominion!

For the Lamb of God he came! And the Lamb of God was slain! And the Lamb of God was raised!

We will fix our wandering eyes on the wonders of our Lord.

By his sacred stripes we have been healed, through his wounds our joys supplied.

So let all condemnation cease! Let guilt have no more claim! Let the devil lose all dominion!

For the Lamb of God he came! And the Lamb of God was slain! And the Lamb of God was raised!

Now the strong ones and the weak are the same under his blood.

For empty-handed all must come to receive his endless love.

So let all condemnation cease! Let guilt have no more claim! Let the devil lose all dominion!

For the Lamb of God he came! And the Lamb of God was slain! And the Lamb of God was raised!

So let all condemnation cease! Let guilt have no more claim! Let the devil lose all dominion!

For the Lamb of God he came! And the Lamb of God was slain! And the Lamb of God was raised! “Victory In The Lamb” Text & Music: Wesley Randolph Eader © 2014 Door of Hope CCLI License #11109756
