Mrs. Salvi Agenda for April 7, 2015 Science 7: Objective: Identify four major groups of arthropods and the main characteristics of arthropods. Name the three major groups of arthropods (besides insects) and explain how they differ. Engage: Question of the day? What type of circulatory and digestive systems do arthropods have? (Formative Assessment) Explore: Arthropods - DE Streaming Explain: Arthropods - external skeleton, segmented bodies, appendages, bilateral symmetry. Arthropods Power Point Elaborate: Images - crustacean, arachnids, centipedes, millipedes, and insects Evaluate: Guided Reading and Study - Arthropods

Mrs. Salvi Agenda for April 7, 2015 Science 6: Objective: Students will describe successional changes in an ecosystem and the factors that affect these changes. Students will relate species diversity to successional habitat changes. Engage: Ecological Succession - DE Streaming Explore: Forest Fire - http://kids.britannica.com/comptons/art-90130/Secondary- succession-takes-place-following-a-major-disturbance-such-as? Explain: Communities of organisms in an environment change over time. The process of gradual change in natural ecosystems is called succession. Climate change can cause environmental change. Example of succession pages 186-187 https://forestry.usu.edu/files/uploads/ForEcolSuccession.pdf Elaborate: Students will be placed into groups and given a scenario where the conditions in the environment change. Students will have to work as a group to determine what will happen to the living things in that environment as a result of the change (hurricane, flood, volcano, meteor, climate change) (Formative Assessment) Evaluate: Lesson 1 and 2 Review (Summative Assessment)

Mrs. Salvi Agenda for April 7, 2015 Science 5: Objective: The student understands how the surface of the Earth is shaped by both slow processes (for example, weathering, erosion, deposition) and rapid, cataclysmic events (for example, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes) Engage: Question of the day? What is the difference between dirt and rock? (Formative Assessment) Explore: Rock and dirt - students will examine the physical differences between rock and dirt. Explain: Weathering - breaks down rocks into smaller pieces called sediment. Mechanical weathering and chemical weathering. Both mechanical and chemical weathering contribute to the formation of soil. Layers of soil. Elaborate: Review procedures for Chemical and Mechanical Weathering of Rock Lab Evaluate: Lesson 3 Review Sheet (Summative Assessment)

Mrs. Salvi Agenda for April 7, 2015 Science 8: Objective: State Newton's First Law of Motion. State Newton's Second Law of Motion. Engage: Question of the day? Who was Sir Isaac Newton? (Formative Assessment) Explore: Brainpop! Sir Isaac Newton Explain: Newton's first and second laws of motion, acceleration (net force/mass), Acceleration due to force. Elaborate: Newton's Laws Smart Board Lesson Evaluate: Guided Reading and Study - Newton's First and Second Laws (Summative Assessment)

Mrs. Salvi Agenda for April 7, 2015 Science 4 Objective: The student knows that materials may be made of parts too small to be seen without magnification. Engage: Question of the day? What is matter? (Formative Assessment) Explore: Ice, water and air - forms of matter Explain: all living and non-living things are made of matter. Matter can be classified according to its properties. Matetr is made up of particles - solid, liquid, gas. Elaborate: Flap book - states of matter Evaluate: Flap Book - Summative Assessment
