8 Structures Education Program Sunday TC meeting at 50th From Spring ’08 TC business meeting minutes: “The Agenda Subcommittee is accepting suggestions for suitable Sunday evening topics at next year’s SDM. One promising suggestion advanced later in the meeting was for a Structures Education Panel Discussion. Steve Engelstad and the Agenda Subcommittee will investigate this idea further.” Presentation_SDM2008_AE_STRUCTURES_TEACHING_v3.pdf AIAA-SDM07-2232_from_Harry_Hilton.pdf STRUCTURESTEACHINGfinal.pdf Panel discussion? –Discuss predetermined issues –Ad hoc participation from audience, Q&A

9 Other TC Issues NAFEMS_Summit.pdf About NAFEMS.pdf

10 Other TC Issues (cont.) From John Bibel, Technical Warrant Holder for Missiles for the Navy's Surface Ships –Admiral McCoy, the Naval Sea Systems Command Chief Engineer, has initiated a study of 10 various military specifications, including one for near miss shock, MIL-S- 901D. In particular, he is asking the government and our industry partners to examine the cost impact of our specifications in order to enable the Navy's shipbuilding plan. –I was wondering if the AIAA (Structures TC, in particular) or any other industry group that you know of might have an existing report, policy paper, or white paper from a study that examined the impact of 901D/shock and would be willing to share with our NAVSEA study team. –Likewise, I am also taking inputs as to the potential for the AIAA to participate in a study on 901D shock if time permits.

11 Other TC Issues (cont.) From Cindy Martin-Brennan, AIAA Life Sciences and Systems Technical Committee Member Habitation Institute Public Policy –Organizing a workshop for the Army Research Office (ARO) that will focus on advanced barriers and structures for base camp sustainability. –Are there experts within your TC who could have further discussions with me in regards to participating in a workshop or can recommend industry experts (e.g., either aerospace or non- aerospace), I would certainly appreciate any help and advice you can offer.
