Matthe w 27 Mark 15 Luke 23 John 19 1

The Nails of the Cross 2 Jn. 20:24-25

2 Cor.1:20 Rom. 4:21 Titus 1:2 Heb. 6:18 God’s Faithful Promises 1. They Nailed Down the Faithfulness of God For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. In hope of eternal life which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. It is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. 3

2. They Nailed Closed the Door of Judaism Col. 2:13-14 Eph. 2:13-14 Heb. 9:15-16 Gal. 5:4 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross. He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.... and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 4

Acts 20:28 Eph. 5:25 Eph. 5:31-32 3. They Nailed Together Christ and His Church Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 5

Rev. 7:13-14 1 Pet. 1:18-19 4. They Nailed Together the Blood and Baptism Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 6

3 Facts 1.Washed in His blood and in baptism – Rev. 1:5; Acts 22:16 2.Remission of sins in His blood through baptism – Matt. 26:28; Acts 2:38 3.Blood shed in His death and we are baptized into that death – Jn. 19:34; Rom. 6:3-4 3 Facts 1.Washed in His blood and in baptism – Rev. 1:5; Acts 22:16 2.Remission of sins in His blood through baptism – Matt. 26:28; Acts 2:38 3.Blood shed in His death and we are baptized into that death – Jn. 19:34; Rom. 6:3-4 4. They Nailed Together the Blood and Baptism Jesus Christ, the faithful witness... To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood. And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. …baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? …even so we also should walk in newness of life. 7

Jn. 14:6 Acts 4:12 5. They Nailed Shut Every Other Way I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. 8

6. They Nailed Down the Love of God Rom. 5:8-9 John 3:16 2 Pet.1:3 Heb. 13:5-6 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. …, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. According to His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,... 9 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee....The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Rom. 5:8-12 John 8:24 Mk. 16:16 Heb.10:26-27 God’s Faithful Warnings 7. They Nailed Down the Wrath of God But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through Him I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but the that believeth not shall be damned If we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation. 10
