Cached Services Aerial Photo –10 cache levels –1:600 & doubling up to 1:307200 –JPEG, 75% compression & 512 x 512 –14GB on disk for approx. 775 sq miles –At least 16 hours to create Contours –4 cache levels –1:600 & doubling up to 1:4800 –PNG, 512 x 512 & anti-aliased –3GB on disk for approx. 775 sq miles –5 plus hours to create Polygon shapefile used for cache extent

Items we’ve run into Security for both server and services Freeance does not support many to one apps Redo the post-install after server url was assigned ESRI’s vision for AGS still doesn’t mesh with what our county needs for web mapping

Where we want to go… Future versions –Create child service groups –Create representations for base layers –Continue to improve the cartographic look –Build application w/out cascading services –Add a layer for hillshade relief Look into building our own application –Java based? Leverage the new.msd file type in 9.3.1?

Discussion Topics What layers do you plan on caching? How many cache levels are you going to use? How many layer group levels to use? Building internally, or purchasing 3 rd party? Project templates for sharing? Application templates for sharing? Balance between novice and power users?
