2. Energy Resources Energy resources are natural resource that humans use to produce energy that we use for our every day living. They are several type resources. – Renewable, natural, and nonrenewable.

3. Type of Resources A natural resource is a resource that the comes from nature and the earth A renewable resource is a natural resource that can be reused and replaced over a short period of time. – Most natural and renewable resources are recyclable. Recycling is reusing discarded and/or used materials A nonrenewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be replaced over a period of time

5. Fossil Fuels Fossil fuels are types of nonrenewable resources. They form deep within the crust over millions of years. When burned they release energy. They exist in liquids, solids, and gases. Once we use up all of our fossil fuels, we won’t be able to get them back.

6. Types of Fossil Fuels Petroleum is a type of liquid fossil fuel. – Petroleum is a type of oil. It is separated into several other types of fossil fuels. Coal is a solid fossil fuel. – Coal is solid and formed underground from decomposed plant material. Natural Gas is a gaseous fossil fuel – Natural gas can be gaseous or liquefied. – Methane is the main component.

7. Strip Mining Most fossil fuels are obtained by strip mining. – Strip mining is the process by which rock and soil are stripped from the Earth’s surface to expose the minerals underneath.

8. Problems with Fossil Fuels Acid Precipitation: Rain or snow that has high acid due to air pollution. – Affects wildlife, plants, buildings, and statue Smog: photochemical fog produced by the reaction of sunlight and air pollutants. Coal mining and petroleum create environmental problems.
