3 #cyberlearning The WHY of CYBERLEARNING Dramatic advances in learning are needed to enable broad participation and engagement in 21 st century science, society and workforces, both in learning of STEM topics and beyond. Although both technological capability and scientific knowledge of how people learn has increased dramatically over the past 20 years, isolated applications of either technology or learning research are not enough to address this issue. “Cyberlearning” tackles important problems that require investigating synergies between technologies of the future and the sciences of deep learning. 4 #cyberlearning The HOW of Cyberlearning Cyberlearning is an applied scientific activity that seeks to rapidly design and test new ways to advance learning of important content through integration of: application of scientific insights about how people learn improving affordances of emerging technologies for learning design of activities, models, and systems which integrate technological affordances with supports for learning participation of educational practitioners in design measurement of "deeper learning" outcomes iterative, formative research processes that inform continuous improvement. Cyberlearning is a team sport requiring mutual engagement across areas of expertise

5 #cyberlearning The WHAT of Cyberlearning Cyberlearning results in: making the future of deep learning visible and tangible with learners in school and non-school settings designing technological exemplars that demonstrate the future and allow rapid scientific progress improving designs through the use of rigorous evidence about learning processes and outcomes advancing the theory of learning to better guide the practical work of improving instruction increased capacity of the field to collaborate to create the next level of impacts.
