7. Listen: The story “A Legacy of Courage” is about a woman who immigrated to the United States from Russia. Listen for the words: Opportunities Courageous Obstacles perseverance

8. Opportunities- good chances I had several opportunities to learn about plants. Courageous- is the act of being brave in the face of danger She was so courageous when she rescued the family from the fire. Teach your partner these words.

9. Obstacles- barriers that prevent you from reaching something She had to overcome many obstacles before joining the boys’ team. Perseverance- continuing to do something even if it is hard to achieve success It took great perseverance to learn to speak English and start a new life. Teach these words to your partner.

10. Generalize  Collect information about the topic:  Gather as many facts as you can about a topic or event  Look for relationships among the facts:  Ask yourself what the facts have in common and what links them?
