About Project Learning Tree Award-winning, multi-disciplinary environmental education curriculum program for educators and students in PreK-grade 12. Curriculum materials address state and national education standards. The curriculum materials provide the tools educators need to bring the environment into the classroom and their students into the environment. Topics range from forests, wildlife, and water, to community planning, waste management and energy.

Powerful clear voice for science, heard 9.3 million times daily around the world. Radio program and science media company. Trusted name in both science and the environment, with thirty plus years of experience reporting science news and information. Radio show carried by more than 1600 radio affiliates in 167 of the 194 countries on the planet. Popular website EarthSky.org in top third of most visited web sites globally. About Earth & Sky In 90 seconds, Earth & Sky shows educate and entertain a global audience with timely and compelling science news and information.

Earth & Sky in the Classroom: Real Issues and Answers Real scientists are interviewed during the Earth & Sky shows. They are often answering questions posed by listeners. Students can investigate and apply this information to their own lives. When you play a radio show for your students, it is like having an expert speaker in your classroom without all the planning. The role of science is more important than ever in inspiring future generations to overcome the challenges of sustainability in the 21st century.

Using Radio Shows in the Classroom Play a 90 second radio show to peak students’ interest in the topics you are teaching. You can choose from 30 different categories on the Earth & Sky Teacher’s website to find many shows related to specific issues. Students can listen to the shows or you can print the transcripts for them to read. In Earth & Sky radio shows that answer specific questions, play only the question … and ask kids to think about the answer. Then play the whole radio show, with both the question and answer, before class ends. At computer time in the classroom, let your students explore the Kids section of the Earth & Sky Web site (http://www.earthsky.org/kids). They’ll find accurate, informative radio shows and articles from the world of science … some for big kids, and some for littler kids … and some made by kids like themselves!http://www.earthsky.org/kids

PLT PreK-8 Guide Activity 84: The Global Climate Activity Overview: Using data collected from Mauna Loa, students will graph changes in atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 46-year period, and identify possible reasons for those changes. They will also learn about the relationship between CO2 and the Earth’s climate, and explore ways to reduce the amount of CO2 they generate. This activity provides: 1. background information for the educator on climate change, 2. three student activities, and 3. copyright free student pages. Main Menu
