11 Revisiting Foundations In you Ministry Area, read, discuss, and decide on 3 to 5 scriptures that embody the foundation of your ministry area These should be distinct scriptural ideas that indicate the reason for needing your ministry area The provided sheets are meant to be a supplement to your discussion only

16 Focus Development Nominal Group Technique 1. Everyone writes down ideas for a focus 2. The ideas are compiled into a list 3. The ideas are voted on by silent ballot 4. A new list is compiled, and the process is repeated

18 Focus Areas - Wesley Serve God Worship God Evangelism – meet needs of & teaching outside our walls Minister to Auburn Become more visible on campus and around town Making sure as many people as possible know what AWF is Openness to minorities Welcome other denominations Plan events with other denominations Welcome new people Outreach and really receive those we outreach to Focus on being open to all who come through the door, not just the familiar faces Be concerned/welcoming of new folks at worship – put their needs above your own Be more welcoming & really push that as a goal Be welcoming, not scary Welcome visitors/semi-regulars with goal to create a Christian family Open doors to “outsiders” Helping folks who come to worship feel comfortable enough to come to other stuff, too Getting involved in more than just worship Involve others outside leadership team People like to do stuff – ask Communication Fewer announcements Make Wesley one whole community Be more unified – not forming groups or circles of friends but reaching out Hospitality-Everyone feeling as they ‘belong’ in the group Bind together as a group Encourage and love one another as Christ would Support each other More involvement on retreats Build up spiritual leaders Small groups-for spiritual growth Go deeper – get to the next level Be on time Be consistent Avoid burnout A fresh, new (physical) look A new ‘theme’ for spring T-shirts Get everyone to realize that there is a type of service project for them to get involved with International internship program

22 Focus Areas - Discipleship Focus more on doing Bible studies that people have asked for Encouraging people to study the Bible on their own as well as Tuesday night Exemplifying importance of prayer & prayer life / emphasis on prayer Informal D-groups to further our relationship with God Bible Study Retreat Attend Make it last beyond the weekend Holy Week Teaching more about evangelism

23 Focus Areas - Missions Political action – getting involved locally Craft/skills seminar Summer mission teams Match energy/interests of individuals (in fellowship) with the needs that are “out there” ‘Doing missions’ consistently without burnout Diversify fundraising Get fellowship involved & dedicated to local missions (broader variety) Getting everyone to realize that there is/can be a mission opportunity for everyone Mission retreat weekend Fix up Wesley Tool storage issues Help ARM

24 Focus - Wesley 35-Welcome new people 25-Reach out to, evangelize, and minister to the campus/community 22-Broader Involvement- Involve others outside of leadership (people like to do stuff – ask) Avoid burnout/Support each other There is a type of service project for them to get involved with 18-Worship God 14-Build a hospitable & unified Christian Community 10-Openness to minorities 8-Encourage and love one another as Christ would 8-Go deeper – get to the next level 7-Help folks move from the “fringe” of Wesley (such as those that just come to worship) into the “core community” 6-Plan events with other denominations 5-Communication 5-Build up spiritual leaders/Discuss our moral standards as this ministry’s leaders 3-Small groups-for spiritual growth 3-Be consistent 3-Retreat
