4 VISION OF THE INFORMATION SOCIETY EVOLUTIONARY SCENARIOS
EVERY INFORMATION - AVAILABLE TO EVERYBODY - IN EVERY PLACE - IN EVERY TIME EVERY INFORMATION - ON REQUEST - AT AFFORDABLE PRICES OVERCOMING OF TECHNOLOGICAL BARRIERS ALL DIGITAL TV - TRANSPORT - PROCESSING EVOLUTIONARY SCENARIOS I - MULTIMEDIA & INTERACTIVITY - ISDN/B-ISDN - INTERNET - VOD/ITV - CORPORATE II - PERSONALISATION & MOBILITY - IN - PCS - MOBILE - SATELLITES 24-25 November 1998 ACTS Concertation Meeeting-

CONVERGING WORLDS COMMUNICATION SERVICES INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES PSTN, ISDN, GSM DATA (INTERNET) COMPUTERS, SOFTWARE & PERIPHERALS TERRESTRIAL SATELLITE CABLE This means that the existing boundaries between many markets and industries will be constantly eroded as entrepreneurial innovations begin to create the integrated business, personal and residential applications that will take us towards the Information Society. In the changing environment some of the differentials between infocom markets are likely to remain as “legacy” services. At the same time other networking aspects will be converged and evolved as new market sectors and new opportunities are developed. These changes will only be enabled and accepted if the advantages of these new communicating applications are clearly visible to: the parties providing the services and the access, the parties developing the applications and most importantly the parties that are expected to use and pay for them. Marketing issues From a reactive marketing: existing market demand (services); development of new technologies (networks); Time-To-Market constraints. To a proactive marketing: existing technological opportunities (networks); offering of new services/applications. The best way to foresight the future market is to create it 24-25 November 1998 ACTS Concertation Meeeting-
