Homework: Element Stamp Project due September 22 (A Day) and September 24 (B Day) Warm Up 7: (Write the question & all answer choices) 1.How would you find out how many protons and atom has? Electrons? Neutrons? 2.If an atom of argon has an atomic number of 18 and an atomic mass of 39.948 how many protons, electrons, and neutrons does it have? Objective: SWBAT create a model of the atomic structure.

Element Stamp Project Due September 22 (A Day) & 24 (B Day) Make sure you follow all directions and produce quality work. This is your first formal grade!
3
Quiz Please have out a sheet of paper and something to write with. Write your answers on your own paper. Please flip your paper over when you are done.
4
How many protons and neutrons are in an atom of…. Helium Nitrogen Oxygen Phosphorous Gallium Atomic Number: # of protons in an atom Atomic Mass (Weight): Sum weight of protons and neutrons # protons + # neutrons = Atomic Mass
5
How to find the number of electrons? We want our atom to be neutral. Since protons have a positive charge, we need to cancel them out with a negative charge (electron). Because of this, we must have the same number of protons and electrons!
6
How many electrons are in an atom of…. Helium Nitrogen Oxygen Phosphorous Gallium
7
Atomic Basics Worksheet Complete # 6-11 with the person sitting next to you.
8
Atomic Models Atomic Models are used to represent the atomic structure of individual atoms. We will use the Bohr Model This model shows the reactivity of the element.
9
Bohr Model 1. How many protons, neutrons, and electrons does it have? 2. Draw a circle to represent the nucleus. 3. Use capital "P" to represent the protons inside the nucleus. 1 "P" = 1 proton 4. Use capital "N" to represent the neutrons insidethe nucleus. 1 "N" = 1 neutron
10
Bohr Model cont. 5. Draw rings around the outside of the nucleus to represent the electron cloud. Electrons are represented by colored dots. REMEMBER not to put more than the maximum number of electrons that each level of the electron cloud can hold. Level one will hold 2 electrons Level two will hold 8 electrons Level three will hold 18 electrons
11
Bohr Model of Oxygen Atomic Number =8 Atomic Mass = 15.999 P= E= N=
12
Bohr Model of Carbon Atomic Number = 6 Atomic Mass = 12.011 P= E= N=
13
Bohr Model of Potassium Atomic Number = 19 Atomic Mass= 39.098 P= E= N=
14
Bohr Model of Scandium Atomic Number= 21 Atomic Mass= 44.956 P= E= N=
15
Atomic Basics Worksheet Complete # 1-5 with the person sitting next to you. Then, flip to the back and complete the back side. **The electrons on the outer level are valence electrons.
16
On your own: -List the name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, number of protons, neutrons, electrons, and Bohr Model for: – Chlorine – Calcium – Neon
17
