6 CONTEXT -- AUDIENCE There can be very different readings of the same text. The context of reception, including the individual reader, influences the way a text is read. Different values may be in contention with a text.

7 HAVE YOU CONSIDERED? To what extent are authors obliged to reveal the truth? To what extent are authors obliged to prompt social change? To what extent are authors obliged to document history?

8 HAVE YOU ALSO CONSIDERED? Translation and intended audience – language translation: German to English, adaptation play to screen or stage transfer London to New York Identity and Paradoxes – one article introduces the concept with Kafka, but can you reflect similarly on identity, paradoxes, and Wilde?

9 AND WHAT ABOUT…? To what extent is there contrast or similarities between the views of the authors and the views of the people s/he is writing about? Some authors are read as much for their writing style as for what they are telling us. How is language used (and to what purpose) with both Wilde and Kafka?
