1 The Salsa By: Sarah Peedin

2 History of the Salsa Credit for creating the salsa goes to many different countries, such as- Cuba, England, France, Haiti, and Africa. However, the roots of the dance come from Cuba. New York created the term “salsa.”

3 Steps The leader starts on their left foot, their partner on their right. The leader goes forward on their left food, partner steps back on their right at the same time. 1-2-3…5-6-7… For steps 1-3: step with right and left. For 4: leader will pause. For steps 5-7: left, right, left, is the pattern. Steps go from fast to slow. Movements are always shifted by 4 beats. There is a natural shift from one weight to another.

4 Many other dance styles are incorporated into the salsa. There are leg and arm movements, body movements, spins, shimmies, turns, and even rolls.

5 Music The music that accompanies the salsa is filled with the thumping of congas, blaring trumpets, and cowbells. Famous songs are- Rumbón Melón-Joey Pastrana Caridad-Gloria Estefan Directo Al Dorazon Gilberto- Santa Rosa Toro Mata- DLG
