2. What Are the Prerequisites for the 2nd Grade? In the First Day, the Second Graders Are Expected To Recognize the Chinese words from ZhongWen Book One. Read First Grade high-frequency words in Chinese. Read 12 lessons in ZhongWen Book One fluently. Produce about 130 Chinese characters. YCT Level 1 and 2 vocabulary

Second Grade Expectation T he Second Grade Will Be proficiency in all the Pinyin forms and its rules Be able to use the four tones and a neutral tone appropriately Be able to blend Pinyin forms into Chinese pronunciation Be able to decode the Chinese pronunciation into Pinyin by the end of the school year.

4. Second Grade Expectation T he Second Grade Will – continued Produce 10 to15 new words for each lesson. Produce words with correct stroke orders. Can make phrases with the new words. Can make sentences with the phrases learned. Recognize and produce 360 words, (Includes words previously learned).

5. Second Grade Expectation The Second Grade Will – continued YCT(Youth Chinese Test) 4 th Quarter. Level 3 Certificate Passing point: 120/200 Test date:Late May Optional test

6. Second Grade Skill Development T he Second Grade Will Learn to use Chinese dictionary. Learn to write down their ideas in Chinese. Learn to express themselves in Chinese.

7. Instruction Methods T he Second Grade Team Will Utilize Picture walk. Drama practice. Story telling. Chinese song, chant. Media.

8. Areas To Be Assessed T he Second Grade Team Will Exam Proficiency in Pinyin, words, phrases, sentences and grade level writing. Reading comprehension. Interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and interpretation skills.

9. Anticipated Growth T he Second Grader Will Be able to answer high order questions in Chinese. Be able to describe/write a story based on the pictures. Become an independent learner.
