4 BUILDING STRONG ® PORTLAND DISTRICT 4 The Dalles Downstream Miter Gate - Emergency Repairs The Problem: ► Cracks in both miter gate leaves. ► Gate vibrates upon un-mitering/opening. ► Gate has no adjustability. ► Lower 30’ not mitering.

5 BUILDING STRONG ® PORTLAND DISTRICT 5 The Fix: ► Interior girder pockets reinforced with boxes bolted in place. ► Web of lower girder doubled up and bolted into place. ► Replace and Re-tensioned all pintle bolts. ► Repaired 32 different areas where cracks existed by welding. ► End post to quoin block stiffeners reinforced with bolted plates. ► Additional Instrumentation The Dalles Downstream Miter Gate - Emergency Repairs

33 BUILDING STRONG ® PORTLAND DISTRICT 33 Columbia River Treaty 2014 / 2024 Review: Purpose & Objectives  A series of studies to collect critical information needed to support possible renegotiation of the Columbia River Treaty (CRT)  Identify benefits and costs to hydropower, flood risk management and other outputs of the system under alternative treaty scenarios  U.S. Department of State decision on alternative courses of action regarding the treaty.

34 BUILDING STRONG ® PORTLAND DISTRICT 34 1)The Treaty has no specified end date; however, it does have a provision allowing either nation to terminate most of the provisions of the Treaty in or after 2024, with a minimum 10 years ’ written advance notice, hence the name “ 2014/2024 Review ”. 2)Current flood control operating procedures will end in 2024, independent of Treaty decision. Why a Columbia River Treaty 2014/2024 Review?
