5 Brussels5 CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES For all applications, there are also a set of cross- cutting issues that will be considered as part of the appraisal process: sustainable development social economic environmental good governance gender equality bilateral cooperation

6 Brussels6 COMPLEMENTARY TO EU FUNDING Some elements that make EEA Grants complementary to EU funding More funding, same objectives Very broad priorities Smaller projects expected Commitment period in-between Pilot projects Focus on the NGO sector and civil society Country specific assistance Donor state related interests and cooperation

7 Brussels7 STATE OF PLAY All 13 beneficiary states have completed both MoUs Beneficiary states are preparing to take the step from preparatory to implementation stage The first steps will be to launch their first open calls for proposals, and to set up special funds such as –Seed Money funds, –NGO funds and –funds for technical assistance Signing ceremony of MoU between the EEA-EFTA states and the Czech Rep Signing ceremony of MoU between the EEA-EFTA states and Poland

8 Brussels8 CALLS FOR PROPOSALS - STATUS 1.The Czech Republic on 18 May this year, announcing a total 10.7 million available for Individual Projects 2.Slovenia on 31 May, with a call worth a total 14.1 million for Individual Projects with four deadlines spread out over the commitment period 3.Malta followed in August with a 3 million call for the entire commitment period 4.Poland on August 31 – announcing a total 176 million for applications across all priority sectors 5.Most other beneficiary states plan to follow suit with open calls during the autumn the financial mechanisms are now in the operational phase
