1 HIV Care Continuum, District 8- 2 Southwest (Albany), Georgia, 2012

2 HIV Care Continuum Methodology, District 8-2 Southwest (Albany), Georgia, 2012 Adults and adolescents are those aged >= 13 years Diagnosed by 12/31/2011, living as of 12/31/2012, including those missing race, sex, and/or risk behavior Current address within District 8-2 Southwest (Albany), Georgia Linked to care = CD4 or viral load (VL) within 3 months of diagnosis date including the day of diagnosis for those diagnosed between 01/01/2011 and 12/31/2011, inclusively Any care >= 1 CD4 or VL in 2012 Retained in care >= 2 CD4 or VL at least 3 months apart in 2012 Viral suppression (VS) = VL<200 copies/ml in most recent VL in 2012 Each bar in the continuum is independent of those preceding it; all percentages are of the total number of persons (N) diagnosed with HIV in each category

3 Caveats and clarifications The number of individuals (N) in some sub-populations is small. Use caution in interpretation. It is possible for a person to be NOT linked to care within 3 months and/or NOT retained in care (> 2 CD4 or VL in 12 months) yet be in “any care” (> 1 CD4 or VL in the previous 12 months) and virally suppressed. Methodology for the care continuum and completeness of HIV data varies among jurisdictions, thus limiting direct comparisons with other states or the national continuum. The Georgia DPH HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Program has used the same methodology for the care continuum for all Georgia Health Districts. Monitoring trends over time within a District, or comparisons between Districts, can be meaningful. Missing information on race, sex and/or transmission category reflects missing data on case report forms that remains unresolved.

4 Caveat for District 8-2, Southwest (Albany) Because of a systems error in which some laboratory facilities were not reporting some laboratory values, the Care Continuum methodology used here generates an artificially low retention in care measurement. Retention in care is thus excluded from all but the first slide
