5 IFAP - objectives Promote international reflection and debate on the ethical, legal and societal challenges of the information society Support the development of common strategies, methods and tools for building an Information Society for all Promote and widen access to information in the public domain through the organization, digitization and preservation of information

6 IFAP - objectives Support training, continuing education and lifelong learning in the fields of communication, information and informatics; Support the production of local content and foster the availability of indigenous knowledge through basic literacy and ICT literacy training; Promote the use of international standards and best practices in communication, information and informatics in UNESCO's fields of competence; and Promote information and knowledge networking at local, national, regional and international levels.

9 Goal of workshop To strengthen information literacy skills of librarians and information workers, particularly in providing them with methodologies and techniques to enable information literacy programmes to be established in their own institutions in the S. Caucasus region

10 Objectives To review existing information skills activities in participants institutions. To introduce participants to concepts of information literacy To strengthen information literacy skills in the electronic environment

11 Objectives To collaboratively develop strategies for the implementation of information literacy programmes within participants organisations

Practiced key components of information literacy practical skills –Defining information needs –Creating effective search strategies –Differentiating search strategies and results from a range of electronic resources –Practised advanced search and retrieval using a range of electronic information resources –Been introduced to tools, tips and techniques that allow effective and efficient information retrieval in the e-environment

16 Outcomes (cont.) Description of your libraries resources and services: –Write a paragraph (250 words) about your library. –At the end of the series of workshops these will be made available for all participants to read and also as a resource for the S.Caucasus.
