1 Open Source Donation Management Software Laura Cassella, Matt Edmonds, Chris Reekie, Matt Wakim We would like to thank BBBS and the YWCA for the opportunity to challenge ourselves with this project. We also thank Professor Mihaela Sabin and our fellow Spring 2011 CIS605 classmates for their support, shared experiences, and constructive feedback. We used Mediawiki to document our progress, and the Google Code site to allow for version control. We used MySQL to develop the relational database, HTML for the GUI, and PHP for the application control. Our team used Apache web server to build and test our work. All of the tools we used for this project are open source and available for anyone to use. Conclusions The DONATE system offers BBBS and YWCA a systematic approach to tracking donors, donations, and fund-raising events. An intuitive user interface, built-in help system, and comprehensive instruction manual provides for seamless functionality. All components of the DONATE system, from development, implementation, and system maintenance are provided at no cost to the organizations. CIS 605 UNH Manchester BBBS – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Manchester is a non-profit organization that provides a service to youth in the community by matching children with a responsible adult who becomes a friend, mentor, and Positive role model in the child’s life. YWCA – Young Women’s Christian Association of Manchester is a non-profit organization that provides social services to girls and women in the community. Through crisis services, youth programs, and community service programs, YWCA supports the needs of women, children, and families in the Manchester area. Both BBBS and YWCA receive support through private donations and their operations will be greatly improved by the implementation of an information management system which efficiently handles donations. Our efforts have brought the DONATE system one step closer to realization
