2 The Problem India is home to 40 percent of the world’s illiterates.

3 Of India’s 210 million children, nearly half are unable to read. The Problem

4 An estimated 11 million children work as child laborers. The Problem

5 96.5% of children are enrolled yet almost half cannot read at grade level. Access is not the primary problem.

6 HALF the enrolled children cannot read. When children cannot compete, they DROP out of school.

16 Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 633,000 children are surveyed in rural India to measure learning levels, contributing to education reform in India and other countries.

17 2 million children reached in rural regions reach through Read India from 2011-2012. Read India Achievements 62,000 volunteers and 48,000 teachers trained in our teaching and assessment techniques. 633,000 children surveyed through ASER, measuring learning levels across the country and spurring education reform.
