1 English Topic Sessions The majority of the afternoon sessions will focus in and around the topic. The children will start by looking at how people survived in Ancient Egypt as well as looking at hieroglyphics, mummification the River Nile. During the last week of half term ‘fun and fitness’ week, we will develop our knowledge of our own bodies as well as different animals’ bodies. Mathematics In numeracy we will be focusing on division and multiplication, and the different methods that we can use to help solve these problems. We will use these skills to further look at problem solving and reasoning. We will also look at fractions and proportions and how these can tie in with weight and recipes. SEAL Children will think about different changes that occur both during school and outside of school. Information Technology We will continue to use the laptops and I-Pads to help develop our research skills. Physical Education This half term the children will be developing their striking and fielding skills and complete weekly sessions with JD Sports Coaches. Art, Design and Technology This half term children will develop their knowledge of archaeology and what technology was used during the Ancient Egyptian period. Children will also use their creative skills to create different key items associated with Ancient Egypt. This half term our topic is ‘Who do you think you are?’. In Class 2 we’re focusing on Ancient Egypt. This half term children will look at non-fiction texts focusing on King Tutankhamen and whether he was killed. The children will tie this in with recognising the key features of explanation texts. At the end of the half term, the children will produce their own explanation as to whether King Tutankhamen was killed or not. Class 2 Miss Harding – Teacher Mrs Payne – Teaching Assistant

2 Home Learning: Things to remember: Please bring in P.E kits on Monday and keep in school all week. P.E sessions are currently Tuesdays and Thursdays School reading books will be changed weekly – but if your child needs to change their book sooner, just let us know and we can sort that out! Some useful websites to help with our topic http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/homework/egypt.htmlhttp://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/homework/egypt.html - an introduction to Ancient Egypt with clear headings. http://egypt.mrdonn.org/http://egypt.mrdonn.org/ - key words to select with the option to complete quizzes. http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/interactives/history/egypt/http://www.childrensuniversity.manchester.ac.uk/interactives/history/egypt/ - range of information aimed at children with the opportunity of completing short, fun activities. Spellings - Children are given between 10 or 15 words to learn weekly. Once children achieve full marks or 1 less, they will move onto the next group of spellings. Spellings are practised at school and for homework. Homework is set on a Wednesday and it will be something relating to the children’s learning that week. The homework will be stuck in their books and children have a choice on how they present it. Homework is handed in the following Monday. Children also need to be reading and practising their times tables/numeracy passports as often as possible – little and often is the best!
