1 Name: Celebrating the Century: 1990-1999 August 1990-Saddam Hussein sent 500,000 soldiers to invade Kuwait. Hussein defied the UN Coalition. He was then attacked in what is known as Desert Storm. The Gulf War lasted 43 days. The president during this time was George H.W.
