2 1 Welcome to GCMC – Members Website!  This is an exciting new technology tool which enables you to communicate with your fellow students via the internet by using blogging, instant messaging, and email.  It is a secure website so you can communicate freely with your group members without worrying about unauthorized users viewing your messages.  It will also provide a means of staying in touch and exchanging ideas, information and experiences once you return home for continued contact among students and faculty.  This is real world and real time communication with other users using chatrooms, instant messaging, blogging, and calendars!

3 2 What is RIO?  A dynamic and secure website designed to extend U.S. international outreach efforts  A tool to strengthen cooperative exchanges among students and faculty of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), the Marshall Center for European Security Studies (GCMC) and the other four regional centers for security studies.  A means of collaborating to build Communities Of Interest (COI) in all areas of academic discipline and regional concern.  A way of communicating among partners and allies on a continuous basis via the website.

4 3 Membership Benefits User members of this secure and robust system will gain access to the following:  At-a-Glance: –Events –Calendars –Schedule of classes –Conferences  Instant communication with other users with blogging and text messaging  Share knowledge with civilian, military and academic experts via COI groups  Networking and outreach opportunities  Secure delivery of information via a federated and secure environment

5 4 Login Page  Go to https://members.marshallcenter.o rg https://members.marshallcenter.o rg  Enter your User Name which is in the format: Firstname.Lastname  Enter your Password  Click Log in button  If you forget your password, you can use the Request new password link to get a new one.  A Log in link will be emailed to you.  For any issues related to log in send an email to Graduate Support

6 5 The Home Page  The Home Page is where new content will be posted to the site.  Depending on the type of content, it will be displayed either as full text, or as a link you can open.  You can choose publishing options to make it Sticky at the top of the page, and it will appear at the top in chronological order of posting.  Instant messaging is available from the Launch Jabber tool.

7 6 To Change Password  For security reasons, you may want to change your password regularly.  In addition to the Request New Password link on the Home Page, you have the option of changing your password from inside the website.  From the My Tools tab, select Account  From your Account page, select the Change Password option.  Enter your New password  Enter your New password again in the Confirm new password field.  Click on Change button.

8 7 Edit Account Settings  From the Account page, select the Edit tab.  This will open the Account Settings page.  You can change your Email address.  Select your Interface Language preference.  Upload a picture of yourself, or an image you would like to use, or Delete a picture that is there.  Enter your Jabber ID. This is: Username@members.diils.org Username@members.diils.org  Select Configuration options for Who’s Online display, Jabber, and Multi-lingual chat (not available yet)  Select your Email preferences.  Create a signature  Subscription settings to receive notices  Select how you want other users to contact you.  Select your time zone.

9 8 My Details Select the My Details tab to change your personal information and to select who will be able to see which details about you. Use the Scroll bar on the right to view all options. Use the dropdown menu at each detail to select the visibility level you are comfortable with.

10 9 Activity/Contact tab  Go the Activity tab to view postings created recently by a certain user.  The list includes the Type, Post Title, Author, Replies Total, and date/time of posting.  Click on the Post title to view the content. Click on the Contact tab to send a message to this user

11 10 My Dashboard  Your Dashboard is your page for accessing information.  The Inbox will display blog and content postings.  As you read them they will be removed from the Dashboard to the Recent folder.  Click on Recent tab to view list.  The My Content tab will list the content that you have created.

12 11 Dashboard – My Content  To view Content that you have created  Go to the Dashboard and click on My Content  It will provide a list of all the content that you have created.  Click on the Title of each entry to view, edit or delete content.

13 12 Events tab  Displays a list of All Events for your group.  Calendar view highlights the dates where events are scheduled.  Click on a date and the Events for that date will appear below.  It also has a filtering option.

14 13 Events - Timeline  The Timeline screen allows you to view events in a timeline calendar view.  It also allows you to search for events using keywords that would be in the event posting.  Keyword search is by either Title or Body content.

15 14 Sign Ups for Events  The Sign Ups tab under Events will list the events for which you have signed up.  The Advanced Search tab will allow you to search for Meetings by keyword.  There is also a Timeline to display a visual view of dates of events.  The Summary will list events.

16 15 Groups tab  The Groups tab will display a list of content created by each group you are a member of.  The Browse tab will list all content  The Create tab will open the Create Group page where you can create a new group.

17 16 Associates Network  The tab allows you to Manage your Associates Network. It will list Received requests from other users to join their Associates List  It will display a list of Associate requests that you have sent.  It further allows you to List, Categorize, Explore and view Recent Activity of your Associates.

18 17 Files  The Files tab lists Tags  It also allows to upload files

19 18 Subscriptions  This page lists the Threads you have received.  Click on the Title to view the posting.  Check the threads you would like to save and click the Save button.

20 19 My Subscriptions Categories tab –Allows you to select the Categories of content that you want to Save. Content Types Allows you to select a type of content that you want to Save.

21 20 My Tools – Groups Option  If you go to the Groups option under the My Tools tab, you will view a list of your Groups discussions.  On the right is information about the Group Manager and Members  The Group Dashboard where you can access: –Recent Discussions List –A Timeline –Start a New Discussion –View Group Events –View Group Files

22 21 Creating Content  The Create Content tab will present you with a drop down list  Select the option you want to create: –Blog Entry –File –Group

23 22 Creating a Group Select Group from dropdown menu to create a new group. A group provides a home page for like minded users to share information and communicate. Members of the group can post articles about their shared interest. Enter the information for your Group page.

24 23 Blogging  A blog is a regularly updated journal or diary made up of individual posts shown in reversed chronological order.  A blog is tightly coupled to the author so each user will have his 'own' blog.  You can create a Blog from the Create Content menu, or from My Tools menu.  Enter a Title for your Blog.  Enter Body text and Tags.  Select your Audience.  You can add File attachments using the link.  Click Preview to view how your entry will look. Make changes. Click on Submit to post your Blog.  To view a list of your blogs, go to My Tools, My Account, Recent Blogs.

25 24 Create File  This page is used to create a file for information, articles, and uploading files you wish to share with others about common areas of interest.  Enter a Title  Enter a text description of the file.  Enter Tag descriptors  Upload a file using the Browse button.  Select the Audience for your posting.  Preview your posting, make any changes you like  Send the message.

26 25 Search Function  Content Search –Allows you to enter keywords for information that you are searching for. –It will pull up any content that has been posted that mentions that word.  User Search –Allows you to search for other Users by name, country or keyword –You can search for a person by using the User Search feature. Search by name, country or keyword.

27 26 Resources - People The Resources tab allows you to view a list of People that are members of RIO.  When you select the People tab, you will be taken to the People page.  A list of people will show.  In separate boxes, you will see the person's username, that person's picture, and the more link on lower- right corner of the box.  Selecting the more link will show the person's full profile containing the following information:  Full Name  Username  History  Associates List  Location  Groups  Singup information  vCard  My Details  The Who's new section is shown under the User search.  Select any new user's name to view their profile

28 27 Resources - Groups  Under the Resources Tab is a Group feature that will list all Groups in RIO.  You can also do a Group search

29 28 Resources - Tags  Tags are keywords you can use to create search words for when you post a piece of content.  The Resources – Tag feature allows you to search through the Tags and find content that you about topics that interest you.  The Browse Tags list provides a count of the items posted with a specific Tag.

30 29 Resources - Glossary  A list of Terms and Acronyms  When you select Glossary on the Resources menu, the Glossary page opens.  At the top of the screen, you will see the alphabet. Some letters will appear to be underlined and in blue; this signifies that there are glossary terms that begin with that letter.  Select the letter of your choice to view glossary terms that begin with that letter.  The glossary terms are listed under the alphabetized hyperlinks.

31 30 Resources - Help/Feedback  From the Resources tab, you can request help about the site.  You can also post Feedback about using the site which will be valuable in providing new features and improving the usability of the tool.  Enter comments into the Feedback field  Define the location of a particular problem  Click on Submit button  You can also Email the page.
