2.  Be a PAL: Protect A Life™ From Food Allergies is an educational awareness program designed to help parents and educators teach students what food allergies are and how to help their friends who have food allergies.  Let’s meet our new friends…

3. is allergic to peanuts Alexander isn't your typical elephant. He always wears a baseball cap, and he even has a peanut allergy! Alex is always learning new ways to keep himself safe from having a reaction. He has many friends in the International Zoo who understand what it is like to manage food allergies.

4. is allergic to milk Lenny is the King of the Jungle, and he has a very powerful roar. It's no secret that cats love milk, but Lenny is allergic to milk and must drink something safe for him instead (he loves apple juice!).

5.  Your friend can become very sick right away even after eating or touching a tiny bit of the food.  He would need to take his medicine right away. His medicine is called EPINEPHRINE.  After he takes his medicine, he will need to go to the hospital right away.

6.  Hives (small, red, itchy bumps) can show up all over the body.  A Stomach Ache  Trouble Breathing  Vomiting/Throwing up  Diarrhea  Itching of the mouth and throat  Your friend might say something feels like it is stuck in his throat.  Your friend may become UNCONSCIOUS or look like he is asleep.

7. is allergic to fish Sally loves to balance colorful balls on her nose and swim in the water. Sally had a reaction once, when a new zookeeper accidentally fed her fish. Now she always carries her medicine with her because she never knows when an accident might happen!

8.  Foods that most often cause an allergic reaction: Peanuts Tree Nuts Wheat Soy Milk Eggs Fish/Shellfish

9. Sophie is Alexander's cousin, and she helps watch out for him by making sure he is careful about his food allergy. Sophie realizes that everyone has something special that makes them unique. In Sophie's case, it's her extra-long trunk!

10. Terry the Owl is a great PAL to have. He reminds his friends whooo have food allergies to read labels, ask questions, and make sure they carry their medicine with them at all times.
