Homework: 1)Textbook p. 18-19 (#s 2-40 even only) 2)Finish your Poster “Math About Me” DO NOW: Copy the following equivalent fractions and find the missing number.

Content Standard: NS 1.1 Compare and order positive and negative fractions. Learning Objective: -Given a PowerPoint on writing and comparing equivalent fractions, the learner will apply factoring process to write equivalent fractions, by completing a graphic organizer, taking a quiz, and making a poster.

Equivalent fractions 1 whole 1/21/2 1/21/2 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 We are learning about equivalent fractions

1 whole ½ ½ ¼ ¼ ¼ ¼ 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 We can see that 1/1 1/1 = 2/2 2/2 = 4/4 4/4 = 8/88/8 They are equivalent fractions

We can see that 2 / 8 is the same length as 1 / 4 So 2 / 8 = 1 / 4 They are equivalent fractions 1 whole 1/21/2 1/21/2 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8

Equivalent Fractions Name the same amount but have different numerators and denominators. 1 2

½ ¼ ¼ 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 Example1: Which fractions are equivalent to ½? 1 whole 1/2 =1/2 = 2 / 4 = 4/84/8

Example 2: Name a fraction equivalent to 1 2 = 2 4 1 2 1 4 1 4

Equivalent Fraction Models 1 2 2 4 3 6 ==

1 2 4 8 5 10 = =

Equivalent Fraction Models 2 3 4 6 =

3 4 6 8 =

Example 3: To Find Equivalent Fractions Multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number. 1 3 3 3 3 9 x =

Example 4: To Find Equivalent Fractions that are reduced, Divide the numerator and the denominator by the same number. 4 12 4 4 1 3 ÷ =

Which of these fractions is equivalent to 1 / 4 ? 2/82/8 1/81/8 1/21/2 1 whole 1/21/2 1/21/2 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8

2/42/4 1/41/4 Which of these fractions is equivalent to 4 / 8 ? 1/81/8 1 whole 1/21/2 1/21/2 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/41/4 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8 1/81/8

Think of a pizza cut into six pieces How many sixths are equivalent to ½?

Now we ’ ve learnt what equivalent fractions are – let ’ s find some ourselves. Good Luck!

Activity: “Math About Me Poster” Think about how math is part of your personal life. Gather this Information on a separate sheet of paper. Today you will be making a “Math about me Poster” that illustrates That information about yourself. You will draw a picture and/or write a math problem that represents that information. Here are a few questions to think When thinking about math in your life: Fractions or whole numbers in your birthday Address numbers Phone numbers Sports numbers Favorite/lucky numbers Number of pets Number of people in your family\ Number of cars your family drives Can you think of any other ways in which math is part of your life?

1)Glue a picture of yourself into the middle. 2)Write your name in one of the 8 rectangles. 3)Then, set out the important numbers in your life! Write math problems 4) Lastly, you will illustrate (draw) and decorate the poster to make it look awesome!!! Use construction paper, magazines, pictures, etc. Have fun!!! Make a Math About Me Poster!
