The Wall The National Vietnam Veterans Memorial, located in Washington D.C., has a gallery containing pictures and stories of the Memorial. It is simply known as “The Wall.” The Vietnam Veteran Jan C. Scruggs, first got the idea of the memorial, after watching a movie, named “The deer hunter,” in 1979. “The Wall” was built in Constitution Gardens through private donations and was dedicated in 1982. This gallery also honors military and civilian women who served and sacrificed during the Vietnam War.

Long Beach Vietnam Veterans Memorial The “Long Beach Vietnam Veterans Memorial” was designed by Christopher Umana and was dedicated on Veterans Day, on November 11, 2000. This memorial is located at Horighton Park in Long Beach California and it features a U.S. Army helicopter, known by veterans as the Huey. This helicopter, donated by Al Gerbino, has logged over two thousand combat hours in Vietnam.

New York Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial The New York State Vietnam Memorial was created by legislation in 1981 and dedicated as a “living memorial” in 1984. It commemorates the military service between 1961 and 1975 and is especially dedicated to those who lost their lives or were declared missing as a result of hostile action. The Memorial features a state honor roll, an exhibition gallery, a memorial courtyard and a resource center. The Memorial features education programs, changing exhibits, special events, and interaction with other agencies. The Memorial Gallery is located in the Justice Building at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial The North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located near a rest stop on the Interstate Highway. It is between Greensboro, NC and Charlotte, NC. The memorial is a wall with a circular back and is made of bricks manufactured in North Carolina. The center of this wall contains the names of over 1620 North Carolinians killed or missing in Vietnam. The names of the countries for which these heroes hailed are printed at the foot of the wall. It also honors 216,000 North Carolinians who fought a commemorative plaque declaring the park’s purpose and the date of it’s dedication.

The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial was designed to honor those who served in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. It pays tribute to all the Philadelphia Veterans who served our country in our nation’s longest war. By honoring these Americans, the memorial separates the warrior from the war and focuses on the valor and sacrifice of these patriots giving each of them a place in history.
