3 What We Do Monitor compliance with the Common Assessment Plan (CAP) www.cote.illinois.edu/about/governance/policies/CAP_Undergraduate.pdf Criminal Background Check (via fingerprinting) Annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training Mandated Reporter Training/Acknowledgement GPA (content, professional education, UI, and overall): 2.5 Grades in content/professional education: C or better (no C-) Safety Education Module Student Teaching Agreement Tests (Basic Skills, Content, APT, edTPA)

4 What We Do Answer Licensure Questions Answer Endorsement Questions Complete Final Audit for Licensure

5 Endorsements Automatically qualified to teach self-contained general education (pre-K – grade 3) Will complete requirements for Early Childhood Special Education Approval (pre-kindergarten) SPED 414, 465, EPSY 401, and SPED 438 or CI 422 built into program. Does NOT cover Special Education K-3 (need LBSI approval/endorsement for grades K-3).

6 Endorsements (K-3) Bilingual approval/endorsement Teach IN the native language of the learners Requirements on Council website English as a Second Language (C&I/DEIL) Teach English to non-native learners Requirements on Council website LBS I Endorsement (needed to work w/special needs grades K-3) Six additional courses in SPED Available only to grad students.

7 Foreign Language Endorsements K-4 K-4: 24 hours in one foreign language and pass test Recommend you take content test if you want to be considered “highly qualified” (a federal no child left behind definition.

8 Testing Early Childhood content test (107) Must take/pass prior to student teaching (state law) Assessment of Professional Teaching: Birth to Grade 3 (101) or Non grade specific APT Typically taken during student teaching semester or may take on the same day content test is taken. Must pass prior to licensure edTPA Must pass prior to licensure

9 Testing (continued) Timeline has been provided to give you some idea when tests (and application submission) should be done for current “batch” of students but you may use as a basic guide. Note: Aug 2015 – All ILTS tests will be computer-based.

11 ISBE Rules No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ may be used toward licensure, endorsement, or approval No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC, Pass/Fail or Proficiency Credit may be used toward licensure endorsement or approval Advance Placement credit, however, may be used
