RAG Formula, volume, area, perimeter, prism LO To find the surface area and volume of 3D shapes 2-Oct-15 GradeFEDCBA Shape Space Measure I understand and can explain the difference between area and perimeter. I can find the area and perimeter of shapes by counting squares. I can find the area of rectangles and squares using a formula. I can find the area of triangles, kites, parallelogram trapeziums and circles. I can use formulae for the volume of cuboids. I can find the volume and surface area of cuboids. I can calculate volumes and surface area of prisms and cylinders. I understand the difference between formulae for area, perimeter and volume by considering dimensions.

EXAMPLE 6 My target is to fully understand how to find surface area and volume of cubes What information do I have? What is the question I am being asked? Mathematical skills needed Any calculations or workings out Answer and checking Box up your answers

Look at the following functional questions and answer the questions using boxing up What information do I have? What is the question I am being asked? Mathematical skills needed Any calculations or workings out Answer and checking Boxing Up – A recap

The leaning tower of Pisa is a cylinder shaped building 30m 120m The HSBC building is a rectangular shape. 180m 50m The American Flatiron Building is a triangular prism shaped building 190m 45m

The pyramids are a square based pyramid shape 55m 75m 40m The Sikri Temple is a cube shaped building

Richard wants to build a real life replica of one of the buildings as a tourist attraction on his tropical island. His builder has given him quotes below for how long it will take to build and how much it will cost to furnish. Can you work out the total cost for him 1)The cost for building the replica depends on the total surface area of the design. It will cost £35 for each square meter. Decorating the interior with the appropriate luxury furniture will cost £50 per cubic meter. 2)Richard has decided that he wants to turn the inside of the buildings into apartments. Each apartment will be a simple cube design and dimensions will be 5m in each direction. How many apartments will Richard be able to get into your design?

Grade Shape/Space/Measure AI understand the difference between formulae for area, perimeter and volume by considering dimensions. BI can calculate volumes and surface area of prisms and cylinders. CI can find the area of triangles, kites, parallelograms, trapeziums and circles. I can use formulae for the volume of cuboids. I can find the volume and surface area of cuboids. DI can find the area of rectangles and squares using a formula. EI can find the area and perimeter of shapes by counting squares. FI understand and can explain the difference between area and perimeter. Hints/Tips
