4 Vocabulary 1. Critique- a detailed analysis and assessment of something: evaluate (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way 2. Precision-the degree to which the correctness of a quantity is expressed. 3. Transform- to simplify or solve a mathematical problem 4. Computation- using 4 basic operations (=, -, x, ÷) to solve a problem 5. Additive Inverse- The opposite of a number (+5, -5)

5 Lesson 7. RP.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

6 Ratio A ratio compares values. A ratio says how much of one thing there is compared to another thing. **Can be written 3 different ways: 3 to 2 3:2 3/2

7 Rate It is a comparison of measurements that have different units, like cents and grams. Example: 420 miles in 6 hours 420 mi/ 6 hrs UNIT RATE A unit rate is a rate with a denominator of 1. Example: 420 miles in 6 hours *divide 420/6 70 miles per 1 hour 70mi/1hr

8 Proportion Proportion states that two ratios are equivalent. 4 12 9 = 27 You can find equivalent proportions by: Scaling, cross multiplying, or simplifying

9 Solving Proportions 12 x 7 = 28 7x = 12(28) write an equation by cross multiplying1 7x = 336 ÷7 ÷7 x = 48

10 Solving Proportions 12 x 7 = 28 solve by scaling 7 x 4 = 28 12 x 4 = 48

16 Vocabulary 6. Absolute Value- The distance of a number from zero on a number line 7. Algebraic Equation- math sentence that shows two equivalent expressions using variables and numbers 8. Numerical Equation- math sentence that shows two equivalent expressions using only numbers 9. Slope- measure of the steepness of a line on a graph (rise / run) 10. Unit Rate- rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit

17 Similar Triangles Similar Figures have the same shape but can be different sizes. The symbol ~ means similar.

18 Similar Triangles Corresponding Angles: The angles that are in the same position on two different figures. Corresponding Sides: The sides that are in the same position on two different figures. **sides must be proportional

19 Similar Triangles For figures to be similar: The corresponding angles must have the same measurement!!! (triangles = 180°) All the ratios of the corresponding sides must be proportional!!

22 Wednesday: Bell Work *HW on desk Write and solve the proportion Answer the question. Round your answer to the nearest tenth. Round dollar amounts to the nearest cent. Asanji took a trip to Mexico. Upon leaving he decided to convert all of his Pesos back into dollars. How many dollars did he receive if he exchanged 42.7 Pesos at a rate of $5.30 = 11.1 Pesos?
