7 Teaching  The Department of IT also offers PhD opportunities for post-graduate research in the field of Information Technologies.  The Department of Information Technologies currently offers four Master of Science programmers  A number of ICT courses are taught to students from Sofia University Bachelor programmers

10 Information and Communication Technologies - ICT  Software developers on the basis of modern ICT;  Expert (consultants, evaluators) of development and use of modern ICT;  Trainers of specialists of different organisations and firms on applying the modern ICT in their respective fields;  Designers of systems for different users, including in the field of communication and information technologies.  Managers at different levels in the field of ICT;  University lecturers and researchers;  Specialists actively using ICT in other fields. The overall goal of the programme ICT is to provide theoretical and practical expertise of informatics specialists for the efficient application of the modern ICT to problems arising in real-word organizational settings. After completing the full educational cycle the graduates from the ICT will have the necessary background of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in:

11 Artificial Intelligence - AI  Foundations of AI  Knowledge Representation  Planning and Search  Natural Language Processing  Vision - Machine Learning  Neural Networks  Knowledge-Based Systems (Expert Systems, Intelligent Tutoring Systems etc.) The basic aim of the programme is to give the students both theoretical knowledge in the field of AI and practical skills in applying the AI techniques in a wide range of IT areas. More specifically the programme offers training in the following sub-areas of AI:

12 Management Information Systems - MIS  Business Information and Communication Technologies  Web-based Interface to Databases  Business Telecommunications  Decision Support Systems  Business on the Internet  Multimedia and Internet Applications  Quantity Methods in Marketing Research (Applied Statistics)  Information Resource Management The purpose of the programme is to give systematic knowledge in the area of Information Technologies and their application as well as to improve the qualifications of managers to work in the changing Information Society.

13 Educational and Training Systems Design - ETDS  the application of theory into practice;  a focus on the needs and situation of the individual participant. The MSc Programme ETSD is a one-year, internationally oriented, for persons who find themselves in a career situation where they are responsible for strategic responses to educational and training problems and challenges. The Programme is offered in English and has as major characteristics:
