The British Take a Collision Course

Define these major events  Proclamation Line of 1763  Sugar Act of 1764  Stamp Act  Declaratory Act  Townshend Act  Boston Massacre  Boston Tea Party  Intolerable Act  Quebec Act

Focus  Who caused the Revolution – the British or the colonists?

Recognize Bias  You can figure out a speakers or writers point of view by looking at the words chosen to describe people, things, events, outcomes, policies, etc.  You should especially look at adjectives (i.e., a stupid policy, this heroic action)  What point of view does the text present about the causes of the American Revolution?  How does the text’s point of view compare to the previous point of view discussed?  (It is much more pro-American and negative towards the British)  The difference between the two points of view is largely a result of differences in frame of reference, or perspective.

Close  Everyone writes history from a frame of reference.  Thus no history is absolute objective truth; rather, it is some historians views (or interpretations) of events, based on the study of information and evidence and general knowledge and beliefs they bring to the task.
