28 Confession of Sin O Lord, our Creator, we are the work of your hands; you are our Shepherd and we are your flock; you are our God and we are your inheritance. Yet you are Holy and we are sinful. You are righteous and we are selfish and unfaithful. 28

29 Confession of Sin In your wrath remember mercy, you do not treat us as our sins deserve. You are our Redeemer and we are the people you rescue; continue the good work you have begun in us by your grace, that the whole earth may know you, our God and Savior. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 29

41 Scripture Reading I Corinthians 15:50-58 50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. 41

42 Scripture Reading I Corinthians 15:50-58 For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.  54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: 42

43 Scripture Reading I Corinthians 15:50-58 “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O death, where is your victory?     O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 43

44 Scripture Reading I Corinthians 15:50-58 58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 44

46 PSALM 90 1 ¶ «A PRAYER OF MOSES, THE MAN OF GOD.» Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3 You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” 4 For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. 5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: 6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.

47 7 ¶ For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed. 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. 9 For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. 10 The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. 11 Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?

48 12 ¶ So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. 13 Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. 16 Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. 17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

49 Know God as home in the face of our brevity. Vs 1-6,10 “Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations…. from everlasting to everlasting you are God. … You return man to dust … You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: …in the evening it fades and withers. …. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.”

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” vs 12

53 2) Know God as home in the face of our sinfulness. Vs 7-11
“Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations….. For we are brought to an end by your anger;…. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh……..”

54 11 Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you?

55 “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:27,28

56 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 “Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23 “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Rev 21: 3

57 Knowing God as our home drives us to fruitfulness. Vs 12-17
“ Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

58 "If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well." Martin Luther King Jr.

59 When you feel abandoned by people, keep crying out to the God of your salvation.

64 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
