1 The Doctrine of Man & The Doctrine of Sin
Great Bible Doctrines The Doctrine of Man & The Doctrine of Sin

2 Man Created by God in His image and is a spiritual and physical being
Distinctive from all other living creatures in having intellect, emotion and will Destined to live eternally with God or apart from Him.

3 Four Major Subdivisions For The Doctrine of Man
Origin Distinctiveness Nature Destiny

4 Origin Man was created by God in His image.
Man’s purpose is to “know God and enjoy Him forever.” Man was created in perfect fellowship and harmony with God, in His image. Not physical likeness – God does not have a physical body. It means in the psychological, emotional and spiritual likeness of God. And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

5 Nature Man has a spiritual as well as a physical dimension.
Man is spiritual as well as physical. Man’s earthly physical body is destined to die. The moment he is born, the process is set in motion for him to die. His spirit lives forever and transcends his physical limitations. He will receive a new body that lives forever. Now may God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thessalonians 5:23

6 Distinctiveness Man has capacities that go beyond those of any animals and mark him as the pinnacle of God’s creation. Man possesses Intellect Emotion Will With emotion he can Feel Empathize Experience All characteristics of God Part of the “image of God” within man.

7 Destiny Man will live forever in heaven or hell.
Destiny in hell is portrayed as agonizing torment. Existence in heaven is pictured in great detail. Heavenly body is beautiful beyond imagination Exceedingly powerful Not subject to time and space limitations The citizen of heaven will rule in the celestial realm. Will possess power and wisdom Unbounded with creativity It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment. Hebrews 9:27

8 Sin Any lack of conformity to the moral perfection of God Pride
Selfishness And a willingness to hurt others to get what I want. “I want what I want…and I want it now!”

9 Four Major Subdivisions For The Doctrine of Sin
Nature Corruption Fall Rebellion

10 Nature Sin is any lack of conformity to the moral perfection of God.
All that is good, right and pleasant comes from God. All that is bad, wrong, and unpleasant does not come from God. We are creatures who sin. We bring bad, wrong and unpleasant things into our lives. We diminish the reputation of God as His children. We decrease the interest the non-Christians might have in God. Do not see difference between Christians and non-Christians All unrighteousness is sin John 5:17

11 Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden
FALl The separation of Adam and Eve from God in the Garden of Eden because of original sin. All pain, evil, and suffering in the world traced back to one event. Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden Because of the cataclysmically negative effects of that event, it has been referred to as the: Fall of Man When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:6

12 Corruption Mankind as a whole was corrupted by the original fall.
Sin entered mankind, and now all men are corrupt. Man is capable of doing good but he cannot keep from doing that which is bad. His essential nature has been corrupted. David said, “in sin my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5) Does not mean that his mother sinned, it means all men are born sinners. We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. And you were dead in your trespasses and sins…Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath. Ephesians 2:1-3

13 Rebellion Because man’s internal nature has been corrupted by sin, he cannot keep from committing personal sin. Man’s heart has been corrupted, therefore he commits individual, personal sins. Some of these sins are sins of: Commission (things we ought not to do, but do) Omission (things we ought to do but don’t) Tangible acts Deficient attitudes, motives, or perspectives

14 Rebellion If compare ourselves with others on external things, we might not do so badly. If we compare ourselves to Jesus, we fall short. For all have sinned and fall sort of the glory of God…For the wages of sin is death. Romans 3:23 & 6:23
