5 Specialists and Special Activities

8 Rest Time Rest time-about an hour to start
As the year goes on, we will it out to a 20 minute quiet time, in preparation for Kindergarten. Please do not send huge blankets in the winter. They must fit in the cubby.

9 Free Choice Centers Student choice play centers Centers could include:
Dramatic Play Art Blocks Puzzles Math Games Reading Trains/Cars/Trucks

10 Outdoor Time 15-20 minutes of outdoor time at least twice a day
Rainy days: Indoor Playroom or classroom Outdoor time gives children opportunities to interact with peers, develop their large motor skills, and learn social skills.

11 -Entry Point and Exit Point -Hands on learning
Units in order: Houses & Homes, Bears, Patterns, Shopping, Changes, Olympics **If there is any parent who has specialty’s in these areas, please make me aware -Each theme focuses on a variety of areas (LA, Math, Socials, Science) and strands -Entry Point and Exit Point -Hands on learning -Houses & Homes to begin on September 7.

12 Houses and Homes Unit Independence and Interdependence
We will be finding out about all kinds of different homes and, through these activities, the children will learn about diversity. The children will play together in the home corner. Communicating The children will experience aspects of language such as rhythm and rhyme and will learn about words, pictures and print. They will listen to and reenact the story of the three little pigs Exploring Through the little pigs story we will explore a variety of materials. We will use research materials to find out more about a variety of homes, including animal homes. Healthy Living The children will learn about the need to take care of themselves and, through stories, explore emotions and emotional needs.

18 Social/Emotional Integrated through all content areas
Children will learn to be a positive member of our class, school and community, with our school’s ESLR’s as the focus: Knowing, Caring and Sharing, Communicating, Thinking, and Behaving Kelso’s Choices (See other slide) – Conflict Management Program by Ms. Tina to help identify and solve small problems independently or get help for a big problem.

21 Transportation Please remember to me at when your child will be absent from school or will be having a playdate. You can also copy Peggy at: on the Uniforms Uniforms-no jeans, or colorful pants or tights. Must wear light blue H.I.S. polo shirts with solid color navy blue bottoms (these can be purchased anywhere), or school dresses for girls. Closed toed shoes, no sandals or crocs. Winter time-H.I.S. cardigans, fleece, or hoodie. No bright color shirts over school uniform Arrival Time Please be on time in the mornings at 7:55am
