5 Global Standards Management Process ©2007 GS1 US 08-000219 PLId&V 08-000219 PLId&V Retailing Company Sizing for Scenario (Question 1 of 1) 1. Example sizing information for medium or smaller sized company's facilities for the retailing side are needed to validate physical location scenarios. (In APril the LCN responded with sizing information for the supplying side.) To help with the response, examples of the information previously received from LCN on the supplying side were: - sample Distribution Centers: small 50 000 bins- 14 locations with 1000- 3000 bins per location = 42 000 bin for one company's plants Please provide the sizing inform Response from GS1 Germany The need for location identifiers is dependent on the internal organisation and not on the amount of facilities. EVERY amount of facilities can be identified by a normal GLN (out of several GS1 Company Prefixes if needed) and a corresponding data management (master data). There is no change in GLN policy needed to cover even the need for big sized companies. A change in policy would be a strategic decision, resulting changes in ALL existing messages, databases and internal systems must be considered. Response discussed in Work Group Action: reach out to LCN Liaison to discuss and clarify Work Group objective and goal

6 Global Standards Management Process ©2007 GS1 US 09-000094 BarCodes & Id 09-000094 GTIN Allocation Rules 20% Rule (Heading) Current GTIN Allocation Rule states that changes to any of the gross dimensions (e.g. length, depth, weight, etc) by more than 20% require a new GTIN A proposal entered to change this allocation rule to When logistic measures of a product are changed a new GTIN must be allocated. An exception can be made when the change is without consequence for the whole supply chain. The rationale is that often there are changes to the gross dimensions that are less than 20%, but cause disruption within the Supply Chain. 11 questions asked - 12 responses received Objective: to determine based on the responses if there is a need to make a change to the rule and if a change is needed to determine the impact of the change
