2 PARENT ENGAGEMENT …an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between parents, schools, and communities with the goal of educating the whole child to ensure student achievement and success

3 PARENT ENGAGEMENT The Georgia Department of Education’s Parent Engagement Program ensures that Title I, Part A parental involvement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity as mandated by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA).

7 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A TITLE I SCHOOL?  All of Murray County schools qualify as Title I schools.  Title I is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic needs.  Title I is the largest Federal Assistance Program for our nation's schools.  The goal is to provide a high-quality education for every child, so the program provides extra help to students who need it most.  As a parent of a Title I School, you have the right to request teacher and paraprofessional qualifications.

8 HOW DOES OUR SCHOOL PARTICIPATE IN THE TITLE I PROGRAM? IIdentifies students in need of educational help SSets goals for student improvement MMeasures student progress DDevelops programs that add to regular classroom instruction IInvolves parents in their students’ educations

9 WHAT ARE CES’ TITLE I SCHOOLWIDE REQUIREMENTS?  Provide instruction by highly qualified teachers.  Strategies to increase parental involvement.  Measures to include teachers in the decisions regarding the use of assessment to provide information on, and to improve, the performance of individual students and the overall instructional program.

10 WHAT ARE CES’ TITLE I SCHOOLWIDE REQUIREMENTS?  Professional development for the staff to enable all children in the school to meet performance standards.  Coordination and integration of Federal, State, and local services and programs.  Activities to ensure that students who experience difficulty mastering standards shall be provided with effective, timely assistance.

12 WHAT CURRICULUM DOES CES USE? CCGPS The CCGPS provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. 14 WHAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW FOR PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT?  Annual Title I Meeting October 30, 2014 at 11:30 AM or 1:00 PM  Parent Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact Meetings September 19, 2014 and September 25, 2014  Title I School Improvement Plan August 28, 2014

15 PARENTS, AT ANY TIME YOU MAY ASK…  Whether your student’s teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he / she is teaching.  Whether your student’s teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived.  What degrees your student’s teacher holds?  Information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications if your child receives help from a paraprofessional.

16 HOW IS TITLE I PARENT INVOLVEMENT MONEY SPENT?  Any LEA with a Title 1 Allocation exceeding $500,000 is required by law to set aside 1% of it’s Tittle 1 Allocation for parental involvement.  Of that 1%, 5% may be reserved at the LEA for system-wide initiatives related to parental involvement. The remaining 95% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the LEA.  Therefore each Title I school receives its portion of the 95% to implement school-level parental involvement.  You, as parents, have the right to give input in how this money is spent.

17  School events and parent trainings.  Additions (Parent Volunteers)  Parent / Teacher conferences You are welcome to.....  Be a part of the Title 1 Team to evaluate the plan.  Be a part of the team to review and revise the Parent Involvement Policy.  Be a part of the team to review and revise the Parent School Compact.
