If the fractions have unlike denominators, then we need to find the lowest common denominator (LCD). Create equivalent fractions so that the LCD is the new denominator. The lowest common denominator is the lowest multiple shared by a set of denominators. Equivalent fractions are fractions with the same value but different numbers in the numerator and denominator.
